In designing the new Losbates school, our aim was to have an interplay within the spaces in degrees of enclosure. On one end of the spectrum is the open fields of the playgrounds and sports field - vast in space and open to the sky; on the other end of the spectrum would be the classrooms - closed and confined intimate spaces for learning. The interplay comes with the in between spaces, be in the enclosed inner courtyards or the large open circulation spaces. It is in these in between spaces where students can interact with one another (be it those in the same class, same year or in different classes and different years.
