The first Generation of RiadArchitecture designed many Misr Insurance Office Buildings in the 1940s and 1950s, including the Misr Insurance Building in Tawfekeya (Orabi Square), Soliman Pasha Street (currently Talaat Harb Street), Lazogly square, and proposed design ideas for their location in Zamalek (which we subsequently scrapped). The architectural style of all these buildings were noted for their heavy Art Deco influence, which Mahmoud Riad was exposed to during his time at the University of Liverpool and while working with Shreve, Lamb & Harmon in New York. This particular building was purchased by the Shell Corporation, which sought the office out to do a few minor modifications, in 1950, and then subsequently was converted in the Misr Petroleum Building during the Nasser Nationalization period.
